RAD’s vCPE Co-Wins MEF’s PoC Silver Award

Demonstrated Agile SD-WAN with Service-Chained VNFs over International Infrastructure

RAD, the industry pioneer in network edge virtualization, has recently won the MEF’s Proof of Concept (PoC) Silver Award, together with Telia Company, Kvantel, Nuage Networks from Nokia, and OneAccess. The award was announced at the MEF17 Global Networking event in Orlando, Florida.

The Proof of Concept showcased real world implementations of SD-WAN Managed Services with complementary virtualized functions, over multi-domain, multi-vendor infrastructure. RAD’s contribution consisted of the ETX-2i with its carrier grade vCPE-OS operating system, which combine advanced NID and vCPE functionalities. In this PoC, the ETX-2i hosted the SD-WAN VNF and service-chained it with a firewall VNF. The ETX-2i and vCPE-OS are part of RAD’s vCPE Toolbox, which brings together service assurance- for any VNF over any access, and with open interfaces for any orchestrator. This allows controlled, low-risk transition to vCPE/SDN.

‘We are honored and excited to have received the award,’ says Ilan Tevet, RAD’s VP Marketing and Business Development. ‘This PoC showed next generation on-demand service delivery, covering all use cases described in the recent MEF white paper on SD-WAN Managed Services. As the industry pioneer in network edge virtualization, RAD is proud to have contributed,’ he concluded.

The PoC included the MEF Lifecycle Service Orchestration (LSO) Framework, CE 2.0 underlay, E-Access services, and SD-WAN overlay services, as well as next generation NIDs and uCPEs that service chain virtual network functions (VNFs). These were automated and provisioned by advanced SDN controllers and service orchestrator that utilizes standardized LSO APIs, including the recently released MEF 58 YANG modules.

‘It’s a true testament to our teamwork that concluded in a successful PoC,’ said Youcef Ayad, Senior Global Product Manager at Telia Company. ‘The PoC was perfectly aligned with MEF’s focus on enabling dynamic MEF 3.0 services. This means agile, assured, on-demand, and orchestrated services that ultimately will allow customers to control their network resources and cloud connectivity,’ he added.
