July 19th, 2018

Mike Short and Gerard Sullano from Alliance were on hand yesterday as it was announced that there is now WiFi service available in two of Toronto’s major subway stations, Yonge Street and St. George Street.

This service is operated by BAI Canada and uses equipment from SOLiD, an Alliance partner. Ken Ranger from BAI Canada is pictured explaining how the service will work.

BAI Canada is building a shared wireless Wi-Fi and cellular infrastructure that will enable wireless communications services for Toronto Transit Commission riders within underground subway stations.

This system will offer WiFi service for free to subway riders. In future, once partnership agreements are signed with Canadian cellular carriers, TTC riders will be able to use their mobile phones throughout the subway system. SOLiD has already been selected by BAI for use in the network they are building in the New York City subway system. to understand how it will work.
