By combining the Next Generation Outdoor PoE Switch from Microchip, the PDS-204GCO, with the Light Pole Power Tap from Solis Energy Inc., customers can simultaneously run different devices like Broadband Radios and Wireless Access Points powered by PoE from a streetlight.
Solis Energy’s Light Pole Power Tap (LPT-142) draws power directly from the streetlight luminaire. It provides fast and error-free installation on top of any photocell-enabled streetlight. Its simple twist-lock mechanism eliminates the need for costly wire splicing, installs in seconds, allows the switch to be placed up to 25 feet (7.6 meters) from the luminaire for optimal positioning, and won’t interfere with existing photocell controls.
Through the redundant two Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) fiber links can be used as optical uplink ports for wireless applications and as a redundant uplink path for increasing network availability. Support for ITU-T G.8032 Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) technology ensures communications continue if there is an uplink failure.
This solution can provide power to up to four devices, such as a wireless backhaul router, a WiFi access point, a video surveillance camera and / or environmental sensors. It is an ideal solution for anyone wanting to provide video surveillance in a parking lot, for example.
