Public Safety & Security Communications: Networking Demands to Support Automation Beyond COVID-19

Networking must be advanced to keep up with the complexities of establishing and maintaining broadband connectivity. As mobility, automation, and serverless computing are coupled with the increased volume demands of voice, video, and data that a robot can be tasked with retrieving, there is zero tolerance for network failure. And when it comes to robotic platforms in the COVID-19 age for public health safety and security, a network connection has never been more mission-critical. Robots and drones are now rightfully tasked to absorb more frontline responsibilities to shield the general public and private industry staff from a threat not overtly seen or known. The pandemic has created a healthcare crisis that robotic platforms are well equipped to battle if armed with a fail-proof network.

Learning Objectives:

• Recognize the networking options available and the limitations (if any) of each.

• Visualize the current and future impact COVID-19 has had on networking demands.

• Differentiate between what public safety and security tasks are best suited for robotic platforms to assist and safeguard manpower.

• Discern what to look for before acquiring a network to future-proof mobility and automation requirements.
